Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) Incentive Program

Corn and wheat growers in Maryland and Pennsylvania may qualify for funding through the Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) Program. Participants work with agronomic advisors to improve nitrogen management, increase efficiency, and support water quality goals.

The Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) Incentive Program helps corn and wheat growers evaluate nitrogen management practices that improve nutrient use efficiency while supporting farm profitability and water quality goals.

Through this initiative, participating farmers work with trusted agronomic partners to assess management decisions and implement strategies that optimize nitrogen use.

Program Benefits

Eligible participants may receive financial incentives for adopting and evaluating nitrogen management improvements.

Benefits may include:

  • Funding opportunities tied to nitrogen use efficiency outcomes
  • Technical support from participating agronomic advisors
  • Access to tools and data that help evaluate nutrient management decisions
  • Opportunities to improve profitability while reducing nutrient losses

Who May Qualify?

The program is designed for:

  • Corn producers
  • Wheat producers
  • Eligible farms located within the project area
  • Farmers willing to work with participating agronomic partners

Additional eligibility requirements may apply.

Participating Partners

Farmers may work with participating advisors and agribusiness partners involved in program delivery, including regional crop consulting and agricultural service providers.

Why Nitrogen Use Efficiency Matters

Improving nitrogen use efficiency helps ensure nutrients are available when crops need them most while reducing the potential for nutrient loss to the environment.

These efforts support both farm productivity and Chesapeake Bay water quality goals.
