Over 70 trusted advisors and like-minded organizations joined Mid-Atlantic 4R in Lancaster Pennsylvania to learn more about practical science-based applications of 4R Nutrient Stewardship and hear directly from experts through research insights and real-world case studies highlighting how 4R farming practices are implemented on farms.

Variable rate technology has helped us utilize the same amount of fertilizer and seed and realize higher yields.
Just throwing money at a problem never fixes the problem, and that’s probably my biggest beef with everything that involves the [Chesapeake] Bay. […] But if we come to [farmers] with solutions like [the Mid-Atlantic voucher program], you know that fix the [environmental] problem, but still make [farmers] more money, I mean, it’s a game changer.
Even when we voluntarily compiled nutrient management plans, we found we didn’t need all the nutrients we were applying. We’ve gotten better since.
Better balancing of dairy manure has enabled use across more acres in accordance with balanced crop needs and has significantly reduced nutrient imports to the farm.
[Precision management] stuff doesn’t really interest Dad because he never did it […] I’ve been kind of throwing it around, and then [my advisor] mentioned the [voucher] program. I was like, “Well, hey, here’s a good time to see once what we think of it!
This voucher, if it’s an initiative to get something set up, get a good program going, we’re going to be saving fertilizer, seed. It all should be making our acres more profitable, so for an initiative to get things going, I think it’s a great program.
